Great News!
Family Tree DNA recently announced they anticipate releasing a new Population Finder tool to everyone’s Family Finder results. The Population Finder will show the Population Finder results to each match matching you so you can compare your match with that of your own.
I am not sure why, but, anyone wishing to opt-out of having the tool attached to their page they may do so. They are asked to do their opt-out before April 30. If they fail to do so before that time, they can do so later. Or vice versa. If they opt out now and later which to opt back in they can do that later, as well.
The message from FTDNA to administrators is posted below:
Dear Project Administrator,
The rumors are true! We are launching our new and vastly improved Population Finder in just a few weeks!
One of the most exciting new features is the Ethnicity Comparison tool. It will let users compare their ethnicity with their matches. Most users will be thrilled by this, but we know that a handful of users will not want to share their ethnic information. Therefore, we’re giving them the option to opt-out. Details are in the email attached below.
We have two places for you and your project members to provide feedback and talk. First is a feedback form on the Opt-out instructions page in the Learning Center. Second is the Population Finder section of our forums.
Thank you for your continued support!
Best Regards,
The Family Tree DNA Team |

Our all new and vastly improved Population Finder is launching in just a few weeks! Soon, you’ll be able to dive into fresh insights about your ethnic origins. You can also compare them to those of your Family Finder matches! We are making these cutting edge comparisons as easy as they are exciting. When we launch Population Finder, we will have comparisons turned on and ready for you.
However, we do understand that this level of sharing is your choice. Therefore, you may choose not to take part (opt-out). To opt-out, please follow the instructions below by April 30.*
- Click this link, https://my.familytreedna.com/privacy-sharing.aspx, and if you are not logged in, do so.
- Select the Do not share my ethnic breakdown with my matches radio button.
- Click the Save button.
You may read more detailed instructions about this page in our Learning Center.
* You change your pricacy settings at any time. Thus, you may opt-out of or opt back into ethnic sharing at a later date if you change your mind. |
