A new Texas Ranger Museum is being built in Kerrville on Highway 173 across the road from the Cowboy Artist of America Museum. The new center is being built by the Former Texas Ranger Association and the Former Texas Ranger Foundation to replace the facility near the Witte Museum in San Antonio that the two organizations outgrew years ago.

The Texas Ranger Center will include a museum, library and an education center where students from across the state will be able to visit, hear speakers, view video presentations and interact with participants in living history programs.

The Former Texas Ranger Association was founded in 1897 by former Texas Ranger Captain RIP Ford and other prominent former Texas Rangers. The association exists to preserve the true history of the Texas Rangers; to maintain and operate a museum dedicated to the Texas Rangers; to establish landmarks related to Ranger history, to administer a scholarship program, and to bring former Rangers, current Rangers and Ranger families together for fellowship, support and mutual purpose.

Membership in the FTRA is open to former Texas Rangers, lineal descendants of Rangers, active Rangers and Special Rangers.

The Former Texas Ranger Foundation was organized in 1971 to support and assist in the fulfillment of the mission of the FTRA and to provide expanded membership opportunities. Membership in the FTRF is open to individuals, companies and organizations who believe in the mission of the FTRA.

For more information on the Ranger Center, the FTRA or the FTRF visit their website at http://www.formertexasrangers.org/Divide.htm . Neither the FTRA, the FTRF or the Ranger Center have any affiliation to the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco.
